Assignment 1, PLE setup Tips/Strategies

See Vista grade book for you grade.  If you have any questions on your grades, please contact me within two days!

I know many of us felt overwhelmed by creating multiple accounts.  This is common in PLE and network learning environments.  Don’t get discouraged!  During the progress of our course, you should have a better understanding and will develop better skills to “manage” multiple leaning tools.  Below are a few tips for you to learn more about each tool.

Wetpaint Wiki

·         Your group feels free to add new pages to your group space to collaborate.

·         Your group can use other wiki sites to collaborate.  Our class doesn’t limit you to course tools only.  In fact, I encourage you to integrate various tools to support your group tasks.

·         Almost all course instructions and materials are located at our course Wetpaint wiki; therefore, without visiting Vista, you can complete your network learning.

Delicious

·         Start bookmarking your online resources on Delicious and apply relevant tags to share with different communities.

·         Here are tips to help you tag:

o   Share with your groups: Tags: ETC647 Group1

o   Share with the class: Tag: ETC647 Lesson1

o   Share with other people: ETC MCC (Mesa Community College)

o   Check “Mark as private” for private bookmarks to maintain your privacy.

o   The more tags applied; the easier it is to locate later; create better community learning resources.

Diigo

·         Keep signing in to Diigo when you work online so you can annotate any web page and for later retrieval.

·         Annotation for personal use: Keep it as private

·         Annotation for sharing: Share with ETC647 Group or public.

Twitter

·         We will use for course announcements.

·         If you have smart phones, by following ETC647, you can get updated on the course with Twitter.

·         Follow your teammates for collaborative group work.

·         Seeing support supports from the classmates.  Include the course hashtag #ETC647 in your tweets.  We have a few students are tweeting actively about the class.  Don’t miss them!

·         View classmates’ tweets: http://twitter.com/ETC647/spring-2010

ETC647 Blog

ETC647 blog is the place for students to view and to get updated on shared course activities, resources, content, and information etc. Feel free to access course blog, follow the course blog, and subscribe RSS etc.

ETC647 &ETC677

It is highly suggested that students complete ETC677 prior to attempting ETC647. ETC 600 level course numbers generally do not reflect the sequence in which courses should be taken. Students will have more positive learning experiences if they take ETC677 first then ETC647. Students are not encouraged to both ETC647 and ETC677 in the same semester because they are both demanding courses. Both ETC647 and ETC677 are offered in spring and fall semesters; generally not during the summer session!
